Immortality
A Hope for Us All
Immortality
They speak of immortality as though it belongs to the few…
the names carried through centuries,
the faces painted into history,
the stories that refuse to die.
But what of the rest of us?
What becomes of those whose worlds were no less vast…
whose love filled kitchens instead of kingdoms…
whose triumphs were witnessed by children,
friends,
neighbors,
and no one else?
We linger for a while…
in the stories told across a table…
in the way someone laughs because it sounds like ours…
in a recipe,
a habit,
a phrase no one remembers learning.
Then one day…
our name is spoken for the last time.
Not written in a genealogy…
not etched into a record where no voice ever lingers…
but spoken…
remembered…
held for one last breath.
Is that the moment we finally leave?
Or is that where another journey begins?
When every thread that tied us here has loosened…
when memory itself has gone quiet…
do we simply dissolve into the great silence?
Or do we gather ourselves again…
every scattered fragment of what we were…
every kindness given…
every sorrow carried…
every wonder still unanswered…
Do we become something whole once more…
something no longer needing a name?
I hope we are not extinguished.
I hope we are transformed.
Not into legends…
not into saints…
not into stars with stories written around them…
But into a new beginning…
where all that was borrowed is returned…
where all that was loved is carried forward…
where the smallest lives are found to have mattered no less than the greatest.
Most of us will never find the immortality promised by history.
We will fade…
quietly…
until no voice remains to call us home.
And still…
I wonder if that final silence is not an ending at all…
but the first moment we remember what we were before anyone knew our name.

Another beautiful piece!
Interesting and reflective.
Immortality for me is not being remembered but in how my way of showing up in the world , through kindness, empathy, love continues to be paid forward through generations. Unknown is worth that legacy 🧡
